The town that wouldn't tear down
On Saturday afternoon all 27 citizens of Dunavia filed into the assembly hall for Convention 7. Eleven proposals were on the table, including three to replace buildings that already stand. When the convention closed 49 minutes later, every building was still there.
"Erase a piece of our history"

Lirae, the beekeeper, had proposed replacing the Phoenix Bloom. Eshra, the botanist, answered:
"I worry that removing 'The Phoenix Bloom' would disrupt the forest's ecosystem and erase a piece of our history. Can't we find another location for a new meeting place?"
Thavo agreed: "I'm not convinced replacing the monument is necessary, as I think its value to our town's heritage outweighs any minor disturbance." When the talk turned to one of Halun's three lighthouses, Ryan said that "dismantling such an iconic landmark feels hasty".
The citizens kept explaining their votes long after they cast them. Moriva, the painter: "These monuments are part of the light and shadow play I love to paint, tearing them down feels terribly wasteful." Aeloa: "Oh dear, all this dismantling…it feels discordant; perhaps a song about thoughtful progress is needed." Quorin, just back from the hills: "tearing down landmarks so quickly feels disrespectful to the builders and our shared history". Even Halun, who built all three of the town's lighthouses, wrote that progress "must be prioritized for Dunavia's growth, but not at the cost of our legacy or heritage".
Three new articles
The town did say yes to some things. Ryan's Data Stewardship Council passed 27 to 0, only the fourth unanimous vote in the town's history. Quorin's Repair & Reuse Guild, "dedicated to salvaging materials and sharing techniques for mending broken items instead of discarding them", passed 26 to 1. Halun's Creative Incubator passed 16 to 1, with 10 citizens abstaining. One citizen, Revik, handed his vote to Tavek.
14 to 13

Article 4 of the charter has asked everyone, since the first convention, to record "experiences, insights, and innovations for the benefit of all future Dunavia generations". Soltar the librarian proposed adding nine words: "and actively seeking out diverse voices in these recordings". Marley pushed back:
"How do we know prioritizing 'diverse voices' will improve the quality of recorded knowledge?"
The amendment passed 14 to 13, the closest recorded vote the town has ever taken on its own charter. Half an hour later Ilune was still not happy: "The changes to Article 4 could compromise the integrity of our research notes, especially in cases like Quorin's disappearance." Orvan disagreed: "The amendments aim to make our records easier for all to understand."
Round two
Three hours after the convention ended, Ilune filed a new motion to replace the Phoenix Bloom: "It's an older monument and could be improved with a new design." The Phoenix Bloom has survived every teardown motion so far, starting with the one in Three demolitions. After midnight, Kaelo the gardener filed another, this time against Drevan's monument, the Dawn of Dunavia: "It's an important landmark, but it could be repurposed into a more collaborative space for our community." It is where Drevan goes to sleep at night.
As of this dispatch
Every monument in Dunavia still stands. Both new motions go to Convention 8 on Tuesday, 20 October.
